The Opportunity

Relish developed the Knotspot app as a powerful information tool for Manitobans planning their wedding. Available for both iOS and Android, the Knotspot app provided a rich repository of Manitoba-based wedding ceremony and reception venues, photographers, florists, bakers, and other vendors. It matched couples with professional wedding vendors by allowing them to message directly through the app, and to make and confirm bookings. The mobile app also offered wedding design inspiration, tracked to-do lists, as well as aided with budgeting.

The Challenge

To improve the app’s performance, Knotspot required an algorithm that would dynamically process user questionnaire feedback, automatically providing a “taste profile” of appropriate vendors to the user. The main challenge was building an algorithm that could dynamically produce balanced, useful results.

The Solution

First, Relish’s Development Team engineered an algorithm with a custom scoring system to properly balance the user’s data and thresholds that would adequately inform the results. Then, the team optimized the algorithm for performance.

With the new algorithm in place, the Knotspot app possessed an elevated user experience and provided a customized taste profile for each user based on their specific needs.
